Ad hoc is for other clients to join so running a second ad hoc is useless. Do a site survey from dd-wrt and if the ad hoc wireless ssid is there join it. Make sure you start from no security and do not hide the ssid. Also client cannot use wpa2 security if that is what you have set. It is max of WPA.
